I have recently considered getting round to getting some pocket-size cosmetic work done on my E320 coupe. In typical W124 fashion the front wings accept slight bubbles on the leading edge a little rust cicatrice above nearside door cladding. The auto is finished in Azurite blueish.
The car does announced to have been painted at some phase earlier past a previous possessor and the nearside quarter console just before information technology meets the door has some kind of hazing in the paint under the clearcoat. The rust spot on hazing is not really visible from over five foot from the car and doesnt detract you from the car.
4 been to a reputable body shop that does prestige cars and have been quoted to repair and paint the effected areas for around £700 inc vat.
What I want to enquire is that is information technology worthwhile? The rust hasnt got worse in the terminal year of ownership just understand it will at some stage.
I understand a respray will improve the looks merely concerned if the paint match will be good which in render might make the car worse than it is but I know the bodyshop does gold work.
I have washed a lot of mechanical work to the car and flew through its last mot with no advisories and i plan to keep the car.
permit me know your thoughts please people
Thank you
Andy

If not, information technology's steep. And it will probably show up the other older panels.
A quality wing repair (letting in new metal) might be factored in. Unless information technology's well rustproofed from backside rust may appear again all too soon.
Nice colour, Azurite.

The nearside door has a small rust blister to so the near side door and nearside rear quarter panel will be painted to blend the work in.
New wings from MB are £170.00 + VAT each from what i understand.
Azurite is a lovely colour and I simply want to prevent further rust and rot!

You lot tin let in a repair section & paint the bottom one-half of the wing, or supervene upon the wings
If you replace the wings you may finish up painting the bonnet likewise as it'south hard to lucifer pigment colour at the boundary of 2 panels. You'll as well need to alloy into the doors
Azurite is not an like shooting fish in a barrel colour to lucifer - at that place are a number of shades and the pigment will accept faded
I'd recommend taking off all the cladding and having a good look at the paint before deciding what to do. Also await at the inner wings underneath the headlights - if they have rotted out y'all'll need to do those at some point. If the wings are coming off, that is the fourth dimension to practice the inner wings

Thanks so much for your valuable input, I did have a feeling that the wings might be in a sorry state once the front bumper has been taken off.
I have had a look though, underneath the bumper where information technology meets the wing by the headlights does appear to be solid but with surface rust. The motorcar has had the usual rust/rot repair under the washer bottle and information technology might be correct in saying the front wings may have been repainted at somestage too! As you say it might exist worth replacing the wings with OE quality ones.
In regards to the colour, I idea there might exist different shades. Reminds me of when I had a VW Golf finished in Reflex Silver, theres about 10 unlike shades!
In your experience Nick what would say would be the best selection to go with? Repair or supercede wings and if im getting the nearside door and rear quarter refinished would the lucifer be expert with the other panels?
Thanks once more.
Andy.

Ask him if he will give yous a guarantee about the rust coming dorsum in short time
I know information technology might sound silly but if he'south not confident than y'all amend supervene upon the wings which I remember cost effectually £200+vat each

Seems there is some mixed reviews, i would be happy if the car was painted and the repair lasted four/v years only also understand the rust could render at whatever moment if not treated!
I will speak with the body shop and ask them almost right match, rust proofing and what kind of guarantee they tin give me.

I have the same dilemma. I besides program on keeping the car and need two new front wings. MB have quoted £212 plus vat each. One time this is done I call up it will makes sense to spray the unabridged machine.
Why?
IMHO it makes more than sense on a W124 Coupe is to refresh all the suspension bits that make it so prissy to drive
Painting the whole automobile considering you are replacing the wings puts lots of money in the wrong identify. £1k spent on suspension volition give you lot, pro-rata, a much improve auto that one where y'all've spent the same on paint
Cars that have been repainted never look as sharp as ones with original paint, unless you spend £iv-5k on the chore
